Located near the student cafeteria the Senior Courtyard at Thomas Stone High School supports five raised garden beds that grow a variety of flowers, vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants. The garden is handicapped accessible, and is used for experimentation and demonstration. In 2012 this garden was recognized USDA People’s Garden.
Community Co-Op Garden
The proposed Community Garden will act as an educational resource for the school and its neighbors. The phrase “community garden” in this case means a garden that is to be a resource for the community, but without individual plots separately managed by community members. In addition to being an outdoor learning site the goal of the Community Garden will enhance the food security of students and the surrounding community by ensuring a supply of fresh vegetables.
